It wasn’t long ago when people decorated their patios with simply a patio table and chairs on concrete, or their backyards with only lawn.  Thankfully, people and style have grown and changed with the times. Today, we’re ripping out part of those green lawns, and moving the indoors out…fireplaces, cushioned furniture, even kitchens have moved outdoors.  Creating an outdoor living space for maximum usage is the dream of practically every homeowner.  What a great place for entertaining!

Pavers are appropriate for any paving application including patios, pool decks, driveways and walkways.  Because pavers are individual units or “bricks,” the natural joints between each paver will “give” with pressure, expansion and contraction, eliminating the cracking inherent to conventional asphalt and concrete pavement.  As a conscientious homeowner, you want your driveway, patio, walkways, or pool deck to stand up to the weather, require little maintenance, and look like new for a long time to come.  You also want them to be cost-effective.   There is no question…traditional concrete, asphalt, and gravel pavements clearly pale in comparison to the beauty, durability and low maintenance of Pavestone.  That’s why the popularity of pavers is sky-rocketing.

Although most of us enjoy our outdoors spaces during the summer, it can get unbearably hot sometimes.  In these cases, many people are adding types of shelter like umbrellas, pergolas, and even trees to protect themselves and their furniture from the sun and heat.  These structures also are a great medium for showcasing climbing plants like clematis, morning glory, or Boston ivy.

In the fall and spring, homeowners have turned to outdoor fireplaces or fire pits when designing their outdoor entertaining areas to provide them with heat.   The fireplace is more commonly built in conjunction with a patio cover or pergola to help create the full-service living room outside.  The fire pits are a great addition to an open air seating area in a backyard.  The ambiance of a lit fire as you cook and entertain can set the mood whether you are trying to entertain or just relax.

Landscape lighting allows you to enjoy the beauty of your home’s exterior and landscape after dusk, and creates outdoor spaces that are safe and welcoming.  Low voltage outdoor landscape lights are usually installed along walkways, pathways, driveways, entrances, and steps.   They help to improve the appearance of your property at night by accentuating shapes and textures of your landscape and structures.  Lighting up these areas detour crime, and will increase a home’s value.

With respect to furniture, there are so many different types that you can choose. They come in all types of finishes in all types of materials, from plastic to metal, iron to wood. When you do choose furniture, see that it will be comfortable enough for you and your guests, as well as uphold quality.

Water gardens transform an outdoor living space into a beautiful paradise where you can relax, unwind, and enjoy quality time with family and friends.   Water features become the focal point of any garden with their melodious tunes and natural ability to attract a variety of birds and butterflies.  The sound of a water feature will drown out noise from traffic or neighbors.  In addition, water features provide an interesting backdrop for entertaining while adding aesthetic appeal to your landscape.  Whether you tuck a decorative fountain near the entrance of your home or create a backyard habitat with an ecosystem pond and waterfall, you’ll find each day enhanced when you waterscape your landscape.

SJN is helping customers create resort-style backyards they can regularly enjoy during their “staycation” in their own backyard.
