Water Features

Ponds and waterfalls have the single greatest impact in a landscape. They transform ordinary backyards into a more luxurious place to relax and enjoy quality time with your friends and family. Enhanced landscaping improves property value, and water features make your property stand out from the rest. There are many advantages to adding water features to your yard such as:

  • Buffers noise from traffic or neighbors
  • Relaxing
  • Attracts birds and butterflies
  • Provides curb appeal
  • Backdrop for entertaining
  • Improves property value

Weather a one rock water feature, a pondless waterfall or a full pond with waterfall is just what you’ve been waiting for; San Juan Nurseries, Inc. has everything you need to create it.

Fountains
Fountains are excellent if space is lacking in your yard. Families can enjoy the sight and sound of running water without the maintenance of a pond. Container water gardens can create settings on a deck or patio, but they also look great greeting visitors by the front door. Any container will do as long as it has the ability to hold water. Any un-glazed pottery will need to be sealed and drain holes will need to be plugged. A wooden container such as a whiskey barrel can be lined with a piece of rubber liner that is affixed to the rim. Make sure the sealant you use safe for plants and fish if you choose to add them. Since mosquitoes will lay eggs in stagnant water, you’ll need a small 75 gph statuary pump fitted with a spitter or fountain head to keep them away from your container water garden. If a rock water feature caught your eye, you may want to use a reservoir called the AquaBasin. The AquaBasin supports up to 2,000 pounds and holds 75 gallons of water. Large basalt columns can be set atop the basin for a truly impressive decorative water feature in the landscape.Maintenance, however is easy! You’ll need to occasionally add water to make up for evaporation. Now that you’re enjoying your container water garden, be careful. Once the water gardening bug bites you, there’s no going back! Pondless Waterfalls
For families with safety concerns with a traditional pond, go pondless! The name basically explains it all. It’s a waterfall and stream, without the pond.  The smaller size of the pond makes it easy for homeowners to enjoy a beautiful waterfall anywhere in the yard.  Best of all, taking care of the pondless waterfall is easy!  Filling the reservoir every few weeks to compensate for water loss because of evaporation is all that’s required.
Ponds
If space allows, why not consider adding a larger water feature to your landscape. Add twists and turns of natural-looking streams and waterfalls ending up in a breathtaking pond near your patioUnfortunately, fish are often seen as creating a maintenance nightmare. Contrary to popular belief, fish will actually reduce pond maintenance, as they graze on string algae and bottom feed from the pond floor. Not to mention fish are pets too! Our kids are not the only ones who have named our pond fish! Customers come in constantly bragging on their ‘Captain Jack’ or ‘Jet’, and so on. Our kids like to make their fish eat from their hands.
Aquatic Plants are Mother Nature’s true filters. Plants are great for adding character to a pond by providing color and texture, but from a filtration perspective, they’re second to none. Thriving from the excess nutrients in a pond and depriving algae of its food source, the aquatic plants in a water garden, given proper coverage, are critical for the overall health of the ecosystem.
